Eagleton Ballpark Update

Mayor's Office News Posted on March 19, 2025

ECCA Baseball and Softball teams have both hosted their first home games on their new home fields!

Blount County Fire Protection District presented the flags and Mrs. Kim Juday with ECCA blessed us with the National Anthem.

Special thank you to REO Cheesewagon and Eagleton alum Tina Rhea.  How special to have her be there and be able to serve in the community where we all grew up.

From the Mayor's Desk

Before Eagleton Ballpark was a ballfield, I went to the former Eagleton Elementary School, which was located between the old third base and outfield.  Once the land became a ballpark, you could say I grew up on the fields. I, along with many Eagleton Villagers, spent a lot of time playing ball and hanging out there. It was a big part of my life growing up, and there are MANY Blount Countians who can say the same.  With the update and overhaul, I hope the Eagleton Ballpark will once again be a big part of our community and something we’re all proud of!  This ballfield has been the center of the Eagleton Community for decades and I’m so proud that it will continue to impact generations to come!

While the renovations are still underway, we are so happy that the school fields were ready in time for the Royal and Lady Royals to play games this season.

I can’t thank enough the community and those who’ve supported this ballpark from the very beginning.  For years, the ballpark was possible because of community support and volunteers spending their time and money on upkeep, especially Scott King and David Wells, who maintained these fields for years.

As a reminder, we were able to do this project with funding nearly all sourced from a federal ARPA grant - bringing our federal tax dollars back into our community, which ultimately preserves local tax dollars.  If we didn’t apply for those federal dollars, they would have just gone to another community.

This project couldn’t have been possible without the support of our Blount County Commission and Blount County School Board, Principal Dowlen, the staff and coaches at ECCA, and so many others.

I also want to give recognition to Franklin & Sons for their site work, and to East Tennessee Fence Company and Jenkins & Stiles, who continue to manage the construction of the entire site.  I am so proud when local companies win the bids for projects like this.

This is truly a labor of community love.

- Mayor Ed Mitchell
