Excess Proceeds from Tax Sales
Details of any excess proceeds from properties sold at a tax sale are available electronically through the Blount County Clerk & Master’s Office.

What Are Excess Proceeds?
Under T.C.A. §67-5-2702, “excess proceeds” are any funds remaining after a delinquent property tax sale, once the minimum bid price has been satisfied.
Those eligible to file a claim include:
- Property owners at the time of the tax sale
- Lienholders with an interest in the property
How to File a Claim
To claim excess proceeds, you must file a Motion to Claim Excess Sale Proceeds.

Important Notes:
- The Clerk & Master’s Office cannot advise on what supporting documentation you need or how to properly complete the Motion.
- Filing fee: $25.00
- Accepted payment: cash, money order, or bank-certified check
- Not accepted: personal checks, debit cards, or credit cards
- File your original Motion with payment, either:
- In person, or
- By mail (include your email address, mailing address, and phone number so staff can contact you if needed).
