ZOOM INSTUCTIONS FOR CHANCERY COURT

Matters That May or May Not Be Heard via Zoom

The following guidelines apply to hearings conducted by Zoom:

  1. The Court will hear:
    • Agreed matters
    • Uncontested matters
    • Defaults
      • The Defendant may appear in person or by Zoom.
      • Notice of Hearings must state that the Defendant may appear either in person or via Zoom.
      • These Zoom instructions must be attached to the Notice of Hearing.
        Instructions for Chancery Hearings via Zoom
  1. The Court may hear:
    • Short contested motions involving legal argument only, provided the matter is not complex.
    • The decision to hear complicated legal-argument-only matters by Zoom will be made on a case-by-case basis.
    • For questions, please contact Chancellor Ripley’s assistant at 865-397-3497.
  2. The Court will not hear via Zoom:
    • Matters involving extended testimony
    • Trials

Zoom Hearing Procedures

  • Participants must be logged into Zoom no later than 9:00 a.m. and remain online until their case is called.
  • Please mute your microphone until Chancellor Ripley calls your case, then unmute and speak clearly.
  • If you experience technical difficulties or if the Court cannot hear you, please contact the Clerk & Master’s Office immediately, at 865-273-5500, to advise that you are attempting to appear.
