Overview
The Office of the Building Commissioner is a division of County Government under the County Commission and County Mayor. The Building Commissioner is appointed by the County Commission and is under the County Mayor for day-to-day administrative procedures. The Building Commissioner enforces the Zoning Regulations, provides staff reviews to the Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission, and County Commission, and issues building permits.
The Building Commissioner is also responsible for the enforcement of section 5-1-115 of Tennessee Code Annotated, which addresses lots that present a threat to the public health, safety and welfare.
Staff
The Blount County Board of Zoning Appeals is made up of five members that are appointed by the County Commission. They serve 5 year terms. The BZA meets each month on the first Thursday of the month. The cases they hear are appeals, variances, and special exceptions in accordance to our Zoning Regulations. The office of the Building Commissioner is located at 1221 McArthur Rd and the office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and can be reached at (865) 681-9301.
