Reserving Items

Patrons have the option to reserve any materials that are currently in circulation or on order in the catalog. This can be done either online through our catalog, by filling out a reserve request at the library, or over the phone. Rest assured, we make every effort to keep our reserves up-to-date. Occasionally, a reserved item might already be on the shelf and picked up by another patron. However, your reservation remains our top priority, and we ensure it's honored promptly. Thank you for your patience and cooperation in these situations.

Reserve Online

  • To reserve an item online, visit our online catalog and search for the item you want. This can also be done through our BCPL mobile app.
  • If the item is in circulation, there will be an option to reserve the item.
  • If you are not already logged into your account, you will be asked to enter your library card and password before continuing.
  • Once you are logged in, you will be prompted to choose a pickup location. Select the Main Library if you wish to pick an item up during regular library hours, or the Locker at Louisville Town Hall if you'd like to pick up your item there. Click here to learn more about our Remote Book Locker.
  • Once you are logged in and you have selected your pick-up location, your reserve request will go through.
  • You can view your spot in line on your account dashboard, and you will be notified via text or email when your item is ready for pickup.

Reserve In Person

  • At the Checkout and Reference Desks, we have paper reserve request forms that you can fill out.
  • Return the completed form to the Checkout Desk.
  • If you are uncertain whether or not we have an item, please refer to our online catalog or ask one of our staff members.

Contact Us

  • If you are unable to reserve an item using the other methods, please call Patron Services at 865-273-1425.

Picking Up

  • Once your reserve has been placed, you will be notified via email and/or text once the item has been returned and is available for pickup.
  • After you have been notified, we will hold your item at the Circulation Desk for 5 days.
  • If you do not pick up your reserve within that time frame, you will receive a $0.25 fine on your account for each item and your item(s) will be returned to the shelves or go to the next patron in line for the copy.

Details

  • If you need to cancel a reserve that has been made available, you can do so by logging into your account online or contacting patron services.
  • You can reserve up to 3 items at one time.
  • If you are looking for a title that our library does not own, you may request it through Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
